To broaden the protective spectrum of a potential whole parasite vaccine against malaria, a chimeric P. falciparum parasite expressing P. falciparum and P. vivax circumsporozoite protein (csp) was generated. This parasite performed comparable to wild type P. falciparum and therefore supports its use in optimizing whole parasite vaccine studies.
